With two small children, every week is a struggle to come up with new meals to cook. Wether it be too time consuming, or someone is in need of attention, new meals usually get pushed back. I often search for easy meals, or ones that are a spin on something we usually eat. This recipe for baked ziti was a definite success! I have to cook for Brandon, paige, and myself..and also have a big lunch packed for Brandon for the next day. Let me know what you think…or if you put your own spin on it!
Found on allrecipes.com and made my own
1 pound dry ziti pasta
1 chopped onion
1 pound ground beef
2 teaspoons garlic, minced
2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
2 (26 ounce) jars spaghetti sauce
6 ounces provolone cheese, sliced
1 1/2 cups sour cream
8 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
Grated parmesan cheese
- Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add ziti pasta, and cook until al dente, about 8 minutes; drain.
- In a large skillet, brown onion and ground beef over medium heat. Add spaghetti sauce, garlic, and seasonings and simmer 15 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Butter a 9×13 inch baking dish. Layer as follows: 1/2 of the ziti, Provolone cheese, sour cream, 1/2 sauce mixture, remaining ziti, mozzarella cheese and remaining sauce mixture. Top with grated Parmesan cheese.
- Bake for 30 minutes in the preheated oven, or until cheeses are melted.
I actually covered the dish for the first fifteen minutes so it wouldn’t get too brown, then uncovered it for the remaining fifteen.
